Strategic Plan

The mission of the Transylvania County Public Schools is to prepare students to become caring and productive citizens in an ever-changing society through the shared responsibility of students, parents, educators, and the community.

Toward that end, we believe that:

  • All children can learn; however, they learn differently, and we must value and understand those differences.
  • High expectations will result in high achievement.
  • Through the shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, and community, we can reach our goals.
  • Children are our most important resource.
  • All children deserve a safe, comfortable, attractive, and inviting atmosphere that fosters learning.
  • All educators, students, and parents deserve respect.
  • Minds and hearts are the focus of education.

PRIORITY 1: Transylvania County Schools will produce globally competitive students.

1.1 Rigorous and relevant academic standards and assessment systems are in place for every student.
1.2 Every student masters essential knowledge and skills.
1.3 Every student uses technology to access and demonstrate new knowledge and skills that will be needed as a life-long learner to be competitive in a constantly changing international environment.
1.4 Every student has the opportunity to graduate from high school with an Associate’s degree or college transfer credit.
1.5 Every student is a life-long learner and is ready for work.

PRIORITY 2: Transylvania County Schools will be led by 21st Century professionals.

2.1 The system recruits, retains, and compensates a diverse corps of teachers, administrators, and staff.
2.2 The system employs processes to ensure the high performance of teachers, administrators, and staff.
2.3 Every education professional will have 21st Century preparation and access to ongoing high quality professional development aligned with district priorities.

PRIORITY 3: Transylvania County Schools’ students will be healthy and responsible.

3.1 Learning environments are inviting and supportive of high student performance.
3.2 Every school promotes a healthy, active lifestyle where students are encouraged to make responsible choices.
3.3 Students, teachers, administrators, and parents demonstrate mutual respect.

PRIORITY 4: Leadership will guide innovation in Transylvania County Schools.

4.1 The system’s education priorities are responsive to the needs of family, community, and business customers.
4.2 The system employs processes to create, respond to, and sustain meaningful partnerships.
4.3 Decision-making authority and control will reside at the most appropriate level closest to the classroom.

PRIORITY 5: Transylvania County Schools will be governed and supported by 21st Century systems.

5.1 Adequate, safe education facilities support high student performance.
5.2 Support processes within the education system are aligned to achieve high performance.
5.3 The funding system provides adequate and aligned financial and personnel resources to maximize student achievement.
